Claims Manager, Workers’ Compensation

Claims Manager Role

Due to our national expansion, we are seeking an experienced Workers’ Compensation Claims Manager to join our team. This person will directly manage and oversee a team of Workers’ Compensation Claims Adjusters within a hybrid setting, remotely and in our Boca Raton, Florida, and other offices as necessary for meetings, training, and infrequent account visits. (15% travel). Salary commensurate with experience and other job-related factors.

Responsibilities

The Claims Manager is responsible for the ongoing reinforcement of Normandy’s claims management practices in reviewing, analyzing, evaluating, and guiding the work of Adjusters, to support appropriate claim resolution.

The Work

  • Create a claims team environment which strengthens and supports consistency in with Normandy’s unique culture, business model and practices, to make merit-based and appropriate benefit decisions
    and determinations, including:
    • Coverage, statutory employment, accident compensability, medical causality/necessity, statutory & regulatory compliance, claim financial management (reserving), escalation practices, effective claim documentation & communication.
  • Perform direct supervision of Adjusters, involving both minimal exposure and high exposure/complex claims, stemming from multiple states.
  • Employ a 3-tiered supervision & oversight program of escalation, time-based claim reviews, and targeted, data-based reviews to promote effective claims investigation & management of:
    • Coverage, statutory employment, accident compensability, medical causality/necessity, statutory & regulatory compliance, claim financial management (reserving), escalation practices, effective claim documentation & communication.
  • Serve as quasi-account manager to key accounts, liaison/subject matter expert between claims operations and agents and other external parties, as well as across internal departments.
  • Manage “people” processes including rewards and recognition, disciplinary matters, evaluating performance, time-off, and other matters critical to maintaining our culture, the satisfaction, and enjoyment of the Normandy team.
  • Assist in the development and implementation of strategies for controlling adverse claim trending.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Education Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of training/experience required.

Experience/Qualifications

  • Current workers’ compensation claims supervision/management experience, (at least 3 years within the last 5 years)
  • Workers’ compensation claims technical and operational experience with managing people, processes, and WC programs, (at least 3 years in the last 5 years).
  • Multi-state workers’ compensation experience preferred.
  • Workers’ compensation licenses as necessary, industry certifications and designations a plus.

Skills and Abilities we Value

Sr. Workers’ Compensation Adjuster

Adjuster Role

Due to our national expansion, we are seeking an experienced Workers’ Compensation Adjuster to join our team. This person will directly manage a claims inventory ranging 75-80 claims, within a hybrid setting, working remotely and with some travel to our Boca Raton, Florida office, and other incidental travel as necessary, (15% travel). Salary to be determined commensurate with experience and other job-related factors.

Responsibilities

Sr. Adjusters are responsible for managing claims consistent with Normandy’s unique approaches while investigating, reviewing, analyzing, and evaluating claim information to make informed and appropriate benefit determinations.

The Work

  • Work within a team environment that strengthens and supports Normandy’s unique culture, business model and practices, to make merit-based and appropriate benefit determinations, including:
    • Initial and ongoing claim investigation, coverage verification, statutory employment verification, accident compensability, medical causality/necessity, statutory & regulatory compliance, escalation practices, effective claim documentation & communication, etc.
  • Manage all aspects of assigned individual claims, involving claims with exposure ranging from simple to complex, and in multiple states.
  • Coordinate with NIC’s strategic partners and inter-departmental team members in the management of claims including, medical directors, legal counsel, nurse consultants, agents, underwriters, and others as necessary to gather information and make merit-based benefit determinations.
  • Develop and implement individual claim strategies designed to control adverse claim trending.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
  • Effectively communicate with internal and external claim parties and resources.
  • Effectively and appropriately resolve claims.

Education Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent required
  • Bachelor’s degree preferred.

Experience Qualifications

  • Current workers’ compensation claims adjusting experience, of which at least 3 years in the past 5 years have been dedicated to managing a caseload of workers’ compensation claims.
  • Technical and operational individual claims management experience (working knowledge of statute/regulation/relevant caselaw, medical necessity, causation)
  • Multi-state workers’ compensation experience preferred.
  • Workers’ compensation licensure as necessary, additional industry certifications/designations a plus.

Skills and Abilities

  • Proficiency in technical workers' compensation claim knowledge.
  • Negotiation skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Proficiency with desk management skills, organization, multiple priorities management.
  • Ability to integrate claim investigation, medical, legal, and other factors to develop claim-specific strategies and identify financial exposure (reserving).
  • Ability to review & analyze claims data & reports.
  • Objectively assess claim facts to make benefit determinations.
  • Moderate knowledge of google business products, e.g., Gmail, google calendar, (Workspace).
