March: How To Improve Your Insurance Business This Month

March marks the start of spring and the start of spring cleaning! Our homes aren’t the only places that tend to get cluttered during the winter months, so use this time to clean up, declutter, and spruce up your space! A clean workspace can help you be more productive, and it removes any particles which could make you sick.

Clean Up Your Desk

Even if you don’t run the agency, chances are good that your desk and work area have become overrun with papers and files. If you’re not in the habit of organizing documents as you get them, you may want to make that a goal this month. Set up a filing system if you don’t already have one. Also, scan the documents and save them as digital files on your computer. Recycle any papers you no longer need and consider keeping a shredder beside your desk so you can stay on top of this task.

Clean Up Your Computer, Phone, and Tablets

Your desk probably isn’t the only thing that could use some sprucing up this spring. When’s the last time you gave your computer a good cleaning? Cleaning out the files on your computer, tablet, and phone can help it to run faster, more efficiently, and more reliably.

  • Backup and Sync your gadgets so that you don’t lose anything.
  • Run a comprehensive antivirus, spyware, and adware check.
  • Sort through your “My Documents” folder and get rid of any files you no longer need.
  • Uninstall or delete apps you no longer use, old photos, and text messages.
  • Clean the junk off your computer’s desktop.
  • Empty the trash.

Give Away Marketing Materials

Next month, we are going to suggest things you should do to spark new business. In order to get ready for that, consider clearing out some of your older marketing materials.

Throw away outdated marketing materials (we like to scan one copy to keep for posterity), look over the materials that can still be used and write down 3 ways to use them. Now, set three reminders: one for next week, one for the week after, and one for the following week to use those materials. Be specific! Here’s an example, “Week one: give flyer to every person in my networking group,” “Week two: take flyer with me to lunch and post on bulletin board,” “Week three: give small stack of flyers to one friend or relative that would be willing to make an introduction to a potential client.”

Clean Up Your Online Presence

Next, take a walk through your website. What needs to be updated, changed, or deleted? Many small businesses forget to update their presence online, but even small changes will give you a boost in your search ranking and help you to be found by potential customers.

Finally, to prepare for the “Spring Into Action” theme coming in April, consider new marketing materials. We have found that business cards and brochures or flyers are still the easiest and most effective pieces in a marketing arsenal, but personal touches such as birthday cards or emails are also very effective, and few things are more effective than online reviews. As your final task of March, set aside fifteen minutes to write a short email asking your clients to leave a review of your business on Google.
