What To Do In June: An Agent's Checklist

The summer months are typically slower for most industries. Kids are out of school so parents often use their vacation time during June. A lot of companies will do their scheduled maintenance and shutdowns during June as well. When things are a little slower at the office, it’s the perfect time to work on some self-improvement that can help you serve your existing clients better and even bring in some new ones.

Add New Technology To Your 2020 Budget

You should be doing regular software updates, anyway, but make sure you’re also keeping an eye out for new and better software titles and hardware. Technology is rapidly changing, and you want to be sure you understand and know how to use it.

In California, some workers’ compensation insurance agents are testing new software this summer that allows them to get authorization for patient treatments in real-time. If it’s a success, you can likely expect it to roll out in other states. Become an early adopter of this advancement by learning about it now rather than after it’s already been picked up by your competitors. Networking

It’s always a good idea to network, but unless you build it into your schedule, it may not be something you think about regularly. A lot of businesses tend to slow down a little over the summer, so now would be an excellent time for you to work your business from the networking angle.

If you’re not already signed up for a networking event, there are several opportunities this month, depending on where you live. And if these don’t fit into your budget or schedule, write in some time on your calendar to follow the links, get the details, and add them to your “to do” list for next summer.

The Florida Association of Insurance Agents (FAIA) is holding its 115th Annual Convention and Education Symposium June 19-21 at Orlando World Center Marriott. It’s a fantastic opportunity to network with fellow agents.

Independent Insurance Agents of Texas (IIAT) is holding InsurCon 2019 at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center in Grapevine June 19-21.

The 83rd Annual PIA VA/DC Convention & Trade Fair is happening June 22-24 in Virginia Beach.

That same weekend, Independent Insurance Agents of Virginia is hosting its Annual Conference and Exposition.

The NAMIC Management Conference is this month in Asheville, NC. The National Association of Mutual Insurance Companies has a few networking events worth checking out this summer.

The Independent Agents of Arkansas is holding its annual convention in Pensacola, FL June 24-26.

If it’s too late for you to plan for a conference this month, others are coming up later in the summer that may fit better into your schedule. Plan now for those.

Read

There are a few things successful people have over others in the business world: talent, resources, a great networking base. But there’s more to it than that. Researchers uncovered the number-one thing that the top one percent of income earners do that sets them apart: they read – a lot. A big chunk of successful people report reading two or more self-improvement or educational books each month.

Here are a few titles if you’re not sure where to start:

Reach out to your clients.

If you’ve got clients whose employees are working in the summer heat (construction and other outdoor work), reach out to their safety manager to see how you might be of help. Offer to send over posters or other materials about staying hydrated in the heat, wearing sunscreen, or even summer tips for staying safe while off the job.
