What To Do In August: An Agent's Checklist

Welcome to the beginning of the end of summer!

August is one of those months that feels transitionary. It’s the tail end of summer leading into the fall. That said, the temperatures are still skyrocketing into the mid-80s, and the sun can still give you one heck of a burn. There is a lot you can get done in this last month of summer weather, so here are our recommendations for insurance agents for the month of August!

Take Some Well Deserved Time Off!

If you’ve been following our monthly suggestions, then you know that we recommended you plan for a summer trip all the way back in May.

Being an insurance agent is rewarding work, but it can also be demanding. Thankfully, the summer is one of the times when things slow down for the insurance industry. Taking a little bit of time off to relax and recharge before the summer can be one of the best uses of time.

If you planned for a family vacation, be sure that you have your emergency contact information set up and all of your regular work is finished ahead of time. The last thing you want is your vacation to be interrupted by your day-to-day job routine.

Host Client Events

The summertime offers you an opportunity to strengthen your client relationships with a client outreach event. In this case, the outdoors is your best friend.

Few people can resist the siren call of free BBQ! So, haul out a few grills and a tent and invite your clients over to your office parking lot for some burgers and hot dogs on the grill. This will also give you a great excuse to send out a newsletter to all your mailing list, informing them about the BBQ, along with any other news about your company.

And on top of all that, you’ll get a “free” hamburger for lunch as well. It’s a great way to enjoy the weather with your clients!

Oh, and don’t be shy about inviting other businesses to the BBQ as well. This can elevate your client event into a networking opportunity!

Bring on New Staff

There is a certain mentality that carries over from when we were children: that the beginning of September is the first day of school.

If you need any positions in the office filled, from new insurance agents to receptionists, then August is a great month to find them. There are lots of people out there who are looking for autumn work. You can post a job posting on recruitment websites and LinkedIn and organize the interviews before the end of the month. If you find the right person, they can start just in time for the “first day of school” at your office in September!

Educate Your Clients about Summer Safety

It’s incredible how many people ignore basic summer safety rules in the name of expediency or ignorance. So many workers in countless industries are hit with heatstroke and other summer-related maladies that can lead to insurance claims.

By taking the time to educate your clients, you might be able to ward off some of these claims at the pass. Just fire off an informative email to them with some essential summer safety tips. If you need a resource with some common heat-related injuries in the summer months, you can check out ours here!

Even though things tend to slow down during the summer, they tend to speed up again around the end of August! If you’re currently in the process of hiring new employees or are planning on revamping your workers’ compensation insurance for the end of the year, we invite you to contact us today!
