When it comes to any profession, there’s always the adage: spend money to make money. If you are starting out as a workers’ comp insurance agent, you’ll need any client you can get. However, to spread your name and build your presence, do you have to spend money?

To put it simply: no. Rather than spending a lot of money on marketing that may or may not work, you are better off spending your time on ways to reach your clients on a more personal level. After all, you need to build your own credibility and stand out from the crowd. And there’s no better way to make an impression than keeping it personal. Digital Advertising - Don’t Spend

While you may be tempted to spend money on digital advertising and marketing early on, you can get by for free. Of course, social media platforms like Facebook, Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, and more are entirely free and viable routes to spread your presence. By spending good time reaching out via social media, you’ll have a better idea of who you need help reaching, and you’ll also be better equipped to understand the results of paid advertising.

You’ve got the know-how. Now, do you pay? Not yet! With your newfound digital skills, you can expand to using other free services, such as registering your business on Google Places, to increase the likelihood of clients finding your business, both online and physically, through Google Maps. Similar services are available for Yahoo, Bing, and Yelp for absolutely no money at all.

Spend Time on Email

Spend time, not money. The best way to spend your time is to reach out to potential clients directly through email. Your messages will not only feel more personal, but you can also engage in a conversation to understand your clients’ budget.

Email marketing, not social media, is one of the most powerful tools for businesses today. Through email marketing, it is possible to earn back $42 per dollar spent return on investment. That being said, you still don’t need to spend money until your email recipient list is around 2,000 people.

Building an email list is easy. Share your company’s sign-up form through social media, your company’s website, on business cards, and more. Offer benefits to join your email lists; like discounts, free advice, or other incentives. Whether sending out an email newsletter or directly talking to your clients, keeping up with your inbox is critical to increasing and maintaining your business.
